His track record in building customer relationships had been acknowledged by promotion to New Accounts Manager.\u00a0\u00a0 Management sees him as being an excellent fit for the role, having the required qualifications and attributes.<\/p>\n<p>Since his promotion however, he is falling well short of expectations.\u00a0 He is less productive, is demotivated and showing signs of stress. Not only is he impeding his own performance, but also that of his colleagues. The company needs to act \u2013 but how?<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Our Intervention<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Career Development Services were approached by the company to evaluate Joe\u2019s circumstances and plot possible ways forward.\u00a0 This involved an initial consultation with management and a separate session with Joe to accurately interpret all the circumstances.\u00a0 Job and Person Profiling was recommended as an initial start.<\/p>\n<p>We discovered that the reasons for Joe\u2019s behaviour were as follows<strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A misalignment between job and person match<\/li>\n<li>Lack of knowledge as to the exact behavioural requirements for the new role &#8211; both by management and by Joe &#8211; and the behavioural traits that would result in on-the-job success<\/li>\n<li>Lack of awareness of Joe\u2019s personal behavioural attributes and potential and how they could best be utilised by the company<\/li>\n<li>Joe\u2019s lack of knowledge about his own personal behavioural attributes and potential<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Outcome<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Clarification of the specific job requirements as agreed by Joe and management and an understanding of his own job behaviour<\/li>\n<li>A clear identification of his potential, possible limitations in the current job role<\/li>\n<li>An understanding of his team role\/team behaviour<\/li>\n<li>Awareness of how he communicates<\/li>\n<li>Identification of his preferred management style and leadership qualities<\/li>\n<li>Identification and understanding of his communication style<\/li>\n<li>Identification of further training\/development needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The overall result of this exercise reassured Joe of his ability to do his job with some customised training intervention and one to one coaching for a six month period.
